Talent Marketplace

The Talent Acquisition and Global Technology Team is looking to create a destination to help employees navigate their careers and prepare them for the next role.

As Project Lead, I drove user research, usability evaluation, and recommendations while mentoring team member on the design thinking process,

I. Research

Our objective is to obtain an understanding of the career and learning journeys of Prudential Employees, to help inform the build of an enterprise-wide, employee-focused tool.

We conducted interviews and focus groups with 37 Employees, representing various departments, levels, and tenure.

We found that most employees fell within three buckets:

  1. Focus on day job - employees are focused on mastering current role or leaving the company; little interest in development

  2. Explore Skills - this group is desires career development but unsure of how to navigate the organization

  3. Seek next challenge - most concerned with finding challenges rather than roles. This group also represents highly-skilled candidates that may not be selected for a role

II. Usability Evaluation

We also conducted a usability evaluation on a working prototype. Some findings:

• With the little update to functionality, branding changes will confuse employees

• Duplicated components across the different pages make navigating website confusing

• Employees do not understand the difference between different learning tools “academies vs lesso"n

III. Opportunities

Consolidate functionality - Duplicative components lead to redundancies and cause issues with website navigation.

  • Recommendation: Review website and information architecture to optimally organize content and functionality

Review branding - Employees do not have clear expectations on the value and commitment required for key items such as the skills graphic, Academies and Pathways. Navigating the different learning resources (Degreed, Skills Accelerator, Udemy, Career Partners) is also difficult.

  • Recommendation: Avoid ambiguous branding and focus on value and functionality. User interface design should set clear expectations

    (difficulty, commitment, instructors).

Consider privacy concerns - Employees have concerns regarding the collected data, how it will be used and evaluated.

  • Recommendation: Set clear expectations on data use and visibility

IV. Create Product Backlog

We worked with the Talent Acquisition, Learning, and Technology teams to update the product backlog.
